Meadows Is a Title I School
What is Title I?
Title I is the nation’s largest federal aid program for schools. All funding comes from the government. Title I was established by the government in 1965 to ensure equity for all students accessing education in reading and math. Being a Title I school means that we can support ALL learners who may struggle with reading and/or math. In addition, the state also requires that Title I teachers are highly qualified in the area they teach. Who gets service?
The classroom and Title I teachers determine which students receive these services in grades kindergarten through 5th by using the District assessments given to all students three times a year. The Title I and classroom teachers choose students who are potentially at risk for not making the academic benchmarks given for their grade levels. Those students will receive small group reading support from both their classroom teacher and a Title I teacher. Once a student demonstrates a level of reading growth, they will be exited from the program.

Additional Information
Title I, part A of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) provides financial assistance to districts and schools who serve a larger population of children from families experiencing poverty. By providing additional resources, the program is intended to ensure that all students have access to academically enriching curriculum and meet the state’s challenging academic standards.
Oregon School Districts determine which schools to fund with Title I-A, according to specific requirements in ESSA. More information can be found in the Rank and Serve Brief.
As outlined in the ESSA, Title I-A funded schools may implement one of two approaches: 1) a Schoolwide Program (SWP) or 2) a Targeted Assistance Program (TAS). These approaches specify how a school receiving Title I-A funds can support students meeting the standards.
